Volume 8: October 5, 2015

Even with a 1/2 day off and a full day off for Teacher Appreciation holiday, we crammed a lot of learning into one week! We wrapped our inquiry into food and sharing it. We planned, created, performed, and reflected on our work. As part of our unit, we explored the causes of why Sharing Food is Complex and Presents Challenges. Through our real-life experience learning during field trips, class discussions, activities, and book explorations we thought critically and reflected on ways we can take action and responsibility in our own lives to find solutions to these causes. Our final project and reflection represented these challenges and the steps each student could take towards solving these problems.

Our study in multiples, factors, multiplication arrays, commutative property of multiplication and addition, and the rules of divisibility continues. Students are thinking critically to make connections between these concepts and applying during class discussions and in written explanations of their work.

Book clubs have been a blast! Consensus building, taking turns when speaking, determining roles, and setting learning and behavior goals and expectations are just a few of the social skills needed to run a book club. Students are working hard to compromise and build consensus, so they can build on their learning as they share questions, interesting vocabulary words, and practice writing summary's of what they read.

Thanks to those families that volunteered their time to make SCARY night a success! We all can't wait! Lastly, October book shares have been excellent! Remember to bring in three items that represent the character! Have a great week.
