Volume 26: 27 March 2017

Left (Valley): This is when we hit a bump in the road and need to pick ourselves up. We call it resiliency.
Right (Peak): We also call the will and need to push on perseverance. The result is reaching our goal and feeling good about overcoming our own mind barriers.

Our learning journey is like climbing a mountain, sometimes many mountains; we have seen this in Esperanza Rising, our read aloud. There are valleys and there are peaks. When we are on the peak, sometimes we feel excited and willing. When we are in the valleys, sometimes we feel like everything is too difficult and challenging. Both the valleys and peaks are short-lived; it is the journey in-between them that inspires us all. The times when we take risks, express our curiosities, examine things from creatives lenses, laugh as if no one is watching, fall without knowing someone is catching us, and aspire to be our best selves. The journey is what makes us knowledgeable thinkers, global inquisitors, appreciative beings, and committed to exceeding excellence. This is why I chose to include the photographs above. This is our journey.

This week, we hit the ground running! We are finalizing our weather projects, have completed our weather myths (and held a rad weather myth reading party!), and have deepened our understanding and knowledge of place value. We will also prepare for our Student-Led Conferences this week.

Next week, our new unit of inquiry - How We Express Ourselves - will begin. We also begin our next math unit, so more to come shortly on that. Until then, au revoir and enjoy the week!

Volume 25: 13 March 2017

This week we bring the blog to you in quotes. We sat down and looked at the photographs from the week and here is what we thought about our learning. Enjoy!
"He did a great job hooking the audience."
"How many ways can represent a number using equations?"
"I know maybe we could use division to equal 24."
"I was probably talking about which color to use next."
"I am writing the longest equation in the world!"

"I'm trying to double-check if my myth made sense.
"Thinking of how to hook my reader's attention using a complex sentence."
