Volume 24: 6 March 2017

This is where curiosity about the why Earth has seasons can lead to. Read on to find out more!
A quick update via bullet points:

Our inquiry in Humans and nature can impact the weather:

  • watched some videos about the seasons
  • did an experiment with globes, lights (i.e. the sun) in a darkened classroom
  • examined weather proverbs from our home countries
  • explored figurative language - metaphors, similes, personification
  • determined that air, water, and sun are the common elements in our proverbs\
  • did some weather practice with www.wunderground.com and Google Sheets
In math:
  • accessed our prior knowledge about place value
  • looked at the "power" of 10 and how it helps us organize our number system
  • worked on 2 x 1 and 2 x 2 digit multiplication
  • "played with" and expressed numbers in a variety of forms in 6 awesome center activities
In writing:
  • explored how to use complex sentences
  • used the Greek myth about the seasons to plan our own myth that explains an element of weather, such as the existence of wind on Earth today
  • some of us started the drafting process, which is just getting our ideas down
Grade 4: Service Learning
  • organized ourselves according to issues that we are passionate about and what action we can take to better, or raise awareness, about that very issue
Digital Citizenship:
  • talked about passwords - How to make them secure? What to do with them? How we use them?
Bonus: Talent Show photographs & enjoy the week! 😉
